Wayne Powell to Barnstorm 7th District with Dr. Ralph Stanley

“O Cantor, Where Art Thou?” Tour to Make Six Stops in Virginia's 7th Congressional District

The Wayne Powell for Congress campaign today announced a two-day barnstorm of the 7th District for October 23-24 with the legendary Dr. Ralph Stanley.  The tour will focus on economic issues and make stops in Gordonsville, Ashland, Culpeper, Mineral, Goochland, and Glen Allen.

Dr. Ralph Stanley, the internationally-renowned bluegrass icon, lives in Coeburn, Virginia. Among his many awards, Dr. Stanley is a recipient of the National Medal of the Arts, a member of the Grand Ole Opry, and won the Grammy Award for Best Male Performance for the 2002 hit O Brother, Where Art Thou?

“Barnstorming is the ol’timey way to take the campaign to the people,” said Christian Rickers, Powell’s campaign manager. “This is an all-too-often forgotten tradition of getting among the poeple, listening to them, and telling them where you stand. And who better to come along with Wayne and provide the music than Virginia’s own Dr. Ralph Stanley?”

Dr. Stanley will be accompanied by his son, Grammy-nominated Ralph Stanley II, and grandson, recording artist Nathan Stanley.

“This is going to be fun and informative,” said Powell. “Since Eric Cantor doesn’t spend much, if any, time with the people in the district, I think that the barnstorm title, O Cantor, Where Are Thou? is perfect.”

Cantor has been criticized widely for not spending time in the 7th District and for focusing too much time on his national agenda by raising money and campaigning in other areas of America. Since spring, Cantor has held 34 fundraisers across America with no public events in the 7th District.
