Open Town Halls in the 7th District
Wayne Powell to Host Open Town Halls in All Ten Localities in the 7th District Blasts Cantor for Refusing to Meet Voters in Open Forums
Powell invites and welcomes all voters, regardless of party affiliation, and members of the media to attend, where he will respond to questions. Unlike Congressman Cantor's events, there are no restrictions on attendees.
"Engaging voters in open forums is true transparency and a priority for me. I will answer questions from any voter in our District and will not hand-pick attendees as Rep. Cantor does at his closed town hall meetings," Powell said.
Powell noted that he asked Congressman Cantor to join him in answering questions in an open forum. To date, Congressman Cantor has not responded, he said. "I assume his lack of response means no. His refusal to personally appear in an open forum with his constituents comes as no shock. Rep. Cantor talks about transparency, but he is invisible; in 12 years of representing the people of the 7th District, he has never once held an open-to-the-public forum, much less a debate," Powell concluded.
