On October 24, 2012, Congressional Candidate Wayne Powell and Bluegrass legend Dr. Ralph Stanley joined forces for a barnstorm tour of Virginia's 7th District entitled "O Cantor, Where Art Thou?" This old-timey tour allowed us to take our campaign directly to the people, something Eric Cantor knows nothing about. Watch, share, and enjoy!
Powell Releases New Television Ad Focusing on Eric Cantor's Extremist Anti-Women Agenda
Attacks Cantor for his Silence on Akin and Mourdock
The Wayne Powell for Congress campaign today released a new television ad which highlights Majority Leader Eric Cantor's extremist positions on women's reproductive health. It will be aired district-wide on multiple outlets.
The ad features a cut-out of Cantor in a doctor's office with a patient and her doctor.
"Cantor has either voted for or co-sponsored 32 pieces of extremist anti-women legislation with Congressman Todd Akin," said Powell Campaign Manager Christian Rickers.
Among the 32 anti-women bills Cantor championed with Akin include the "Forced Ultrasound" legislation and the introduction of the "Forcible Rape" bill which would have minimized the definition of "rape". Akin became the focus of national attention this summer and was chastised by most prominent Republicans when he said that a woman couldn't become pregnant if she was "forcibly raped".
"Cantor is clearly out of step with the women of the 7th District," said Wayne Powell. "Unbelievably, Cantor has even refused to join Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and other prominent Republicans in denouncing the candidacy of Akin or Richard Mourdock." Mourdock recently said if a woman was raped and became pregnant it was "God's will".
Republicans Herb and Tom to Vote for Wayne Powell
Powell Campaign Releases Radio Ads Featuring Herb and Tom
The Wayne Powell for Congress campaign today released two new radio ads featuring two neighbors talking in their yards about the election featuring Powell against House Majority Leader Eric Cantor.
"These ads reflect what we are hearing all over the 7th District," said Christian Rickers, Powell's Campaign Manager. "Not only independents but Republicans as well are not happy with Cantor. They're telling us that he represents greed and not them. For sure, they know he's AWOL from the 7th."
Powell Calls on Cantor to Explain Association with Embroiled Senate Candidate Todd Akin
Wayne Powell, Congressional candidate in Virginia's 7th District, today called on his opponent, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, to explain his co-sponsorship of 32 abortion bills with Rep. Todd Akin and to denounce his candidacy for the U.S Senate seat in Missouri. Akin told a St. Louis news station on Sunday that "legitimate rape" rarely causes pregnancy, saying, "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."
"Cantor's and Akin's abortion votes clearly show they are a mirror image of each other," said Powell. "The only difference is Akin talked about his."
